Matching FAQ: Can I upload a photo of my pet or a trip?

Can You Upload a Photo for a Custom Tote Print?

TL;DR. Yes. Attach it in Generate as a reference — AI creates a new tote print and uses an AI credit. Your file is not printed as-is unless you choose Print original as-is, which keeps the pixels and does not use credits. Confirm you have the rights to use the image.

Why this matters

People often want a pet, a trip, or a family snapshot on a bag. ToteCraft can use that file — but the default is not to stamp the photo as-is. AI uses it as a reference and creates a new tote print. That boundary matters for copyright, likeness, and what you should expect on fabric.

Reference photo (default)

Attach the image in Generate as a reference. AI creates a new print for this tote and uses an AI credit. Lighting, crop, and style can change. The photo guides mood and subject; it is not a guaranteed pixel copy on canvas fabric.

Print original as-is

If you want the uploaded pixels themselves, choose Print original as-is. That path keeps the file, does not use AI credits, and still has to fit the print-safe area. Confirm you have the rights to print the image — a photo you do not own should not go on a made-to-order bag.

What makes a usable upload

  • A readable subject (pet face, landmark, or object) rather than a dark thumbnail
  • Enough resolution that the print-safe zone is not a blur once it hits 300 DPI production files
  • A crop that already feels like a tote panel, or a willingness to let AI reframe it

What this is not

Uploading a photo to ToteCraft is not the Harmrit portrait flow. Portrait Studio uses photos so artists can hand-paint an 8×10" original after you approve an AI preview. A tote upload becomes a printed bag, not a painting. Do not expect brushwork, gallery wrap, or the portrait refund stages on a tote line.

No. Every template locks the printable area for you. Your artwork stays inside the print-safe zone automatically, and we send 300 DPI production files to our print partner. You preview on a realistic tote mockup — not a factory cut diagram.
